The Conspiracy Theorists, The 1969 Apollo 11 - 984 Words

According to Dave Cosnette and countless other conspiracy theorists, the 1969 Apollo 11 mission never went to the moon and several say never left Earth’s atmosphere. The theories range from the crew never leaving Earth to the crew only getting into the orbit of the moon. Their evidence consists of anomalies found in the footage captured by the crew on the moon as well as in space, technology at the time of the mission, and numerous natural phenomena that the crew would have to overcome to land on the moon. Their arguments depend on low quality video and photographs, along with limited insight due to a lack of credentials and knowledge on the events and physics. Some â€Å"evidence† commonly used by conspiracy theorists are the shadows in the film, lack of stars while on the moon, the Van Allen belt, and many more anomalies that may not even be relevant to the mission itself. The conspiracy theory that will be discussed is the one where the mission never left the lower a tmosphere of Earth proven by anomalies in the film along with the â€Å"impassable† Van Allen radiation belt (Cosnette 1). The â€Å"evidence† presented by those who believe that the Apollo missions were a hoax do not hold any water against scientific inquiry. The first piece of evidence to regard is the deadly Van Allen belt. The majority of conspiracy theorists will say that the amount of radiation that the crew would have received while in the belt would have almost instantly killed them. Theology Proper From the opening of Scripture God’s power is on display as he creates ex nihilo, but before such an awesome display can even be considered, one must contemplate that God is. Numerous creeds throughout history have begun with the affirmation, â€Å"I believe in God.† The existence of God is seen in the intricate designs and the complexity of the universe, but this alone cannot fully establish the existence of the God described and revealed to us in Scripture. The biblical God is more than just a creator of a deistic universe; his power extends beyond. Although he is sometimes spoken of in anthropomorphic terms, God is spirit (John 4:24). He does not have a spirit as man does; he is pure spirit. No one has seen God nor can see him with the physical eye (2 Tim 6:16). A spirit has no flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). God as spirit has great implications in the understanding of who God is and the worship we offer. In the above referenced verse, John goes on to sa y that those who worship God must do so in spirit and in truth; â€Å"the nature of God determines how he is served.† (FOOTNOTE FERGUESON, 213 LOGOS) This will be discussed at greater length in a later section.
